Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities • Pilot Program for CII Water Audit and Fixture Replacement (2023), UT
MWM, together with subconsultant Bowen Collins & Associates (BC&A), partnered with the Salt Lake City Department of Public Utilities to develop and implement a comprehensive and sustainable Commercial, Industrial, and Institutional (CII) Water Audit and Fixture Replacement Program. Because CII water use accounted for more than half of all metered water sales within the City, the program was designed to provide targeted conservation strategies capable of supporting long-term water savings goals and per capita reduction targets.
The program had four primary objectives: improving the City’s understanding of CII water consumption patterns, developing strategies for long-term CII water management, identifying and implementing water efficiency opportunities for participating facilities, and piloting a scalable CII Audit and Fixture Replacement Program that could serve as a model for water retailers throughout Utah. Through targeted audits, fixture replacements, and outreach initiatives, the program achieved estimated water savings of approximately 7 to 12 million gallons annually. A summary of the program was presented by the Mayor of Salt Lake City in the Executive Report linked below.
